Coastal wetlands facing fragmentation and loss of biodiversity, study finds.
The study looked at how the size of landscape features affects the Yancheng Coastal Wetland. By analyzing data from 1991 to 2017, researchers found that certain landscape patterns were more sensitive to changes in size. They discovered that the area-margin index and shape index were most affected by different sizes, while the diversity index was less responsive. The wetland became more fragmented and complex over time, with natural wetlands being more sensitive to changes than artificial ones. The optimal size for analyzing the landscape in this area was determined to be 50 meters.
