Shrubland vs. Grassland: Soil Moisture Impact on Ecosystem Services
Soil moisture in different types of vegetation affects water loss and ecosystem services. In the Qilian Mountains, China, shrubland had the highest soil moisture, grassland had the lowest, and spruce forest had the coolest soil. Water loss was higher in shrubland and spruce forest compared to grassland. Soil moisture controls water loss in these areas. This study helps us understand how soil moisture and vegetation patterns are linked, which can guide ecosystem management in mountainous regions.
