Reducing internal heat sources in buildings can slash energy use by 89%.
Internal heat sources like lighting and electronics affect how much energy air-conditioned office buildings use. By studying Australian office buildings, researchers found that reducing the amount of heat generated inside the building can significantly lower energy use and cooling needs. In fact, cutting internal heat sources can reduce energy use by up to 120 kWh/m² per year and prevent overheating issues. This means that lowering the amount of heat produced inside buildings can help them adapt to global warming in the future.
