New flood warning system in Vietnam saves lives and reduces damage.
The researchers used a combination of models to predict flooding in Tra Khuc-Ve River basin in Vietnam. They found that the models accurately predicted flood events in 2012 and 2013. By using rainfall forecasts, they created flood warning scenarios to help plan for future floods. The maps showed that Tu Nghia and Son Tinh Districts were the most affected areas, with over 11% of the area flooded. This study will help decision makers plan for reducing the impact of natural disasters in the region.
