Polluted Runoff Threatens Rural Lakes, But They Can Filter Contaminants
The study looked at the water quality in Lake Wydmińskie and found that water flowing into the lake from drainage ditches carried pollutants from agricultural areas, potentially harming the lake. The most polluted water was in the main tributary and bay fed by it. However, water flowing out of the lake was cleaner than water flowing in, showing the lake's role in reducing pollutants from agricultural sources.
