Land cover changes in North East India threaten biodiversity and agriculture.
The study looked at how the land in Kamrup district of Assam changed from 1991 to 2011 using satellite images and GIS. They found that built-up areas increased by 45.82%, wetlands decreased by 39.45%, croplands increased by 4.16%, and forests decreased by 3.09%. Overall, there were significant changes in land use, with more areas becoming built-up or used for farming.
