Rice prices impact Vietnamese food consumption patterns, study finds.
The study looked at what and how much food Vietnamese families eat, using data from 2006. They found that the types of food people buy are influenced by how much money they have, the prices of food, and where they live. When the price of rice goes up by 1%, people buy 0.8% less rice. But if people's income goes up by 1%, they buy 0.36% more rice. This means that different groups of people in Vietnam eat different foods. Policymakers should make food policies based on these differences.
