Outdated GDP data in half of world's economies hindering policy decisions.
The article looks at how well 189 countries compile their GDP data. They checked if the data is up-to-date, available on time, and if different methods give similar results. They found that half of the countries have good benchmark years, most report annual GDP data on time, but only about half report quarterly GDP data on time. The study suggests areas where countries can improve their data collection.
