Cryopreserved rabbit sperm could revolutionize livestock breeding and food production.
The researchers wanted to see how adding different substances to a solution used to preserve rabbit sperm would affect the sperm quality. They mixed rabbit sperm with a solution containing either DMSO, DMF, or a combination of both before freezing it. They found that using a mix of DMSO and DMF at lower concentrations improved sperm motility, viability, acrosome integrity, and DNA quality after thawing compared to using DMSO or DMF alone at higher concentrations. This means that combining DMSO and DMF in the solution helps keep rabbit sperm healthy during the freezing process.
