Surge in Money Demand in Netherlands Linked to Economic Growth Boom
The paper looks at how much money people in the Netherlands want to keep in their pockets. In the 1980s, the demand for money in the Netherlands went up a lot compared to how much money the country was making. The usual ways of predicting this didn't work well anymore. By using new ways of looking at the data and adding in more information about interest rates and the value of the Dutch money compared to the U.S. dollar, the researchers were able to make better predictions about how much money people wanted to keep.
