The study focused on evaluating how water recharges the Guarani Aquifer System on the Uruguayan-Brazilian border. Researchers used a numerical model to simulate groundwater flow in the area near Rivera and Sant´Ana do Livramento. They found that most streams in the region drain the aquifer, and groundwater pumping causes a cone of depression near the cities. The model results matched existing data but highlighted the need for more reliable information.
