Reduced phosphorus fertilizer slashes soil pollution, boosts sustainable farming practices.
Reduced phosphorus fertilizer and organic fertilizers can help reduce phosphorus loss in purple soil sloping fields. A study monitored runoff events in 2014 and found that interflow was the main pathway for runoff. Overland flow was the main pathway for phosphorus loss. Combining straw with reduced phosphorus fertilizer was more effective than pig manure in reducing phosphorus content. The phosphorus loss load was highest in treatments with regular phosphorus fertilizer, followed by those with organic fertilizers. Overall, the study showed that these practices can significantly decrease phosphorus loss in purple soil sloping fields.
