Tilapia outperforms carps in coastal ponds for food and income.
The study looked at raising fish in ponds in coastal Bangladesh. They tried different combinations of Tilapia, Rohu, and Catla fish in the ponds. They found that ponds with only Tilapia had the highest survival rate and weight of fish. These ponds also produced the most fish. Overall, raising only Tilapia in the ponds was more profitable than mixing them with other fish. This shows that raising Tilapia in small ponds can be a good way for coastal fishers in Bangladesh to make money and have food.
