Tidal creek deepening accelerates ocean-bay connection closure, impacting coastal ecosystems.
The study looked at how tides and sediment move in tidal creek networks affected by both natural factors and human activities. By focusing on two creeks in Spain, researchers found that tides from the ocean and bay flow into the creeks differently, creating uneven tidal patterns. The shape of the creeks and the ocean floor also play a role in how tides behave, leading to one area filling up faster where tides meet. This infilling process is sped up by human changes to the environment.
