The article compares two ways of gathering data from a network of sensors in a real manufacturing setting using databases. The researchers looked at two methods, data sharding and foreign data wrappers, and tested them using a PostgreSQL database on Raspberry Pi computers. These computers shared data wirelessly to a central server. Both methods were used on all devices, and performance was measured for different types of data gathering. The study shows that these techniques can be used for any sensor network or Internet of things setup.
