China has been rapidly developing hydropower, but faces challenges in absorbing all the power generated. The study looks at the evolution of this issue, identifies problems, and suggests solutions. By optimizing generation operations and coordinating between different power grids, more hydropower can be efficiently absorbed. Economic incentives and compensation mechanisms can also help reduce hydropower curtailment. Overall, there is potential to improve hydropower absorption in China.
