Lizard diversity decline threatens global ecosystems, new study warns
The researchers looked at different types of lizards around the world to see how their numbers are influenced by where they live and how they behave. They found that lizards with different habits, like climbing trees or living underground, have different hotspots of high numbers. The most lizard species are found in Australia, but some types are most common in the Amazon. Interestingly, having a variety of lizard habits in one place doesn't always mean more lizard species there. Instead, certain lizard types becoming very diverse in one area leads to more lizard species overall. This study helps us understand why lizards are found where they are and how their diversity is connected to their behaviors.
