Low soil organic matter is a big problem in India, leading to poor soil health and lower crop yields. Traditional sources of organic amendments like cattle manure are decreasing. However, there are many other options available, with around 300 million tonnes in the country. Using these alternative sources can improve soil health, boost crop productivity, and increase overall soil quality. Applying these organic amendments, along with fertilizers, has shown to significantly increase crop yields in different regions and climates. Composting and vermicomposting are effective ways to turn these organic materials into nutrient-rich products for plants.
