During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period in China, five short-lived dynasties ruled the northern part of the country. This period began in 907 when Zhu Wen took power from the Tang dynasty. The dynasties were Later Liang, Later Tang, Later Jin, Later Han, and Later Zhou. This era lasted for 54 years and marked a turning point in Chinese urban history.
