China's Forests Thrive as CO2 Levels Rise, Reshaping Landscapes
In China, the amount of plant growth (NPP) increased from 1961 to 2016 due to higher CO2 levels and climate changes. Different regions in China showed varied growth patterns, with the southwest and northwest seeing the largest increases. Events like El Niño also affected the growth rates. Looking ahead to 2091-2100, NPP is expected to keep rising with increased CO2 levels. Forests, especially temperate ones, will contribute the most to this growth. Overall, rising CO2 levels will drive most of the future increase in plant growth, while climate changes might slightly reduce this effect.
