Private banks outperform public banks in Indian banking efficiency race
The article analyzes the efficiency of Indian banks from 2008 to 2017 using data envelopment analysis. It compares public and private banks, finding that private banks are more efficient. Only 9 out of 38 banks were overall technically efficient in 2016-2017, with scale inefficiency being a major factor. Private banks showed higher productivity growth than public banks during the decade. The study suggests using more diverse models for better insights and examining the impact of environmental factors on bank efficiency.
