Optimum age for slaughtering Black Bengal goats discovered for better meat quality.
The study looked at how the age of Black Bengal goats affects their slaughter traits and carcass characteristics in different areas of West Bengal. They examined goats aged 6-9 months, 9-12 months, and over 12 months from four regions. The researchers found that the body length of the goats varied significantly between age groups and regions. The carcass weight also differed among the regions, with Murshidabad having the highest weight at 6-9 months. Overall, the best age for slaughtering Black Bengal goats is 9-12 months, as they have better dressing percentage and meat quality compared to other ages in all regions.
