Balancing soft rock and sand boosts soil carbon and nitrogen levels
The study looked at how different mixtures of soft rock and sand affect the amount of carbon and nitrogen in soil. They found that as you go deeper into the soil, the amount of organic carbon and total nitrogen decreases. The soil with a 1:1 ratio of soft rock to sand had the highest levels of carbon and nitrogen near the surface. This means that a 1:1 ratio can help build up carbon and nitrogen in the top layer of soil and help microorganisms break down organic matter.
