Revolutionizing Winter Feeding for Goats in Nepal: Silage Saves Lives!
The study demonstrated a method of making silage and feeding it to goats in Jumla, Nepal during winter. By giving goats a mix of silage and chopped hay, they gained weight and stayed healthy even in cold weather. The goats ate most of the silage but didn't like the chopped hay as much. The kids and does that received the silage mix gained more weight compared to those that didn't. This shows that using fermented maize fodder silage can help prevent weight loss in goats during winter when there is a shortage of green forages.
