Blending coal types could reduce harmful emissions and improve combustion efficiency.
The researchers studied how different types of coal burn together and affect the emission of nitrogen oxides (NO). They found that blending bituminous coal with anthracite coal can improve the combustion performance of coal. When the two types of coal are burned together, the NO emission falls between the levels seen when each coal is burned alone. Increasing the proportion of anthracite in the blend can increase the conversion rate of NO. The interaction between the two types of coal can either inhibit or promote NO emission, depending on the ratio of the blend.
