Green revolution in agriculture leads to harmful disservices for ecosystems.
The agriculture ecosystem provides both helpful services and harmful disservices, depending on how it is managed. A new method was developed to value these services without using money, focusing on the energy involved in the ecosystem. By looking at agriculture in Bahawalnagar, Pakistan, researchers found that while modern farming techniques increase production, they also lead to negative effects like pollution and soil erosion. This study shows that the way we currently farm has benefits but also causes harm to the environment and human health.
