Red pine growth in Ontario could transform future reforestation efforts.
The researchers studied how red pine trees grow in plantations in North Central Ontario. They looked at the height growth of the trees and created curves to show how fast they grow. By analyzing the first few internodes above 1.5 meters, they could estimate the site index of the trees. The study found that red pine trees in this region grow well, suggesting they should be planted more in the future.
