Turning Rice-Fallow Areas into Thriving Pulse Crop Fields in India
In eastern India, after harvesting rice, a lot of land is left unused. To make better use of this land, a project used satellite data to find areas suitable for growing pulses. They looked at things like temperature, slope, and water availability. In four districts, they found that around 20-40% of the land was fallow after rice, but only 8-12% was suitable for growing crops. This shows that with the help of satellite data and other factors, we can not only see where land is unused after rice, but also figure out where we can grow other crops.
