New seismic method revolutionizes reservoir characterization for unconventional resources.
Seismic geological structures in reservoirs can be described using a new method that combines seismic phase attribute and coherence attribute. Instead of the usual Hilbert transform, a 2D Riesz transform is used to estimate phase attribute directly from seismic profiles. The mutual information is then used to show the relationship between different seismic traces, and a coherence algorithm is applied to the phase attribute. This workflow was tested on synthetic and real 3D seismic data, showing its effectiveness in characterizing geological structures.
