New study reveals future predictions of global species richness under climate change.
Scientists compared two types of models to predict future changes in species richness due to climate change for over 14,000 species globally. They found that both model types were able to predict current species richness accurately but differed in future predictions. The choice of model type had the biggest impact on the accuracy of future predictions, suggesting that the two types should not be used interchangeably. Both models have their strengths, with one being better for species with restricted ranges and the other for species-specific responses.
