Ethnic affirmation boosts cross-cultural understanding, mediated by personality traits and values.
The study looked at how feeling connected to your ethnic group affects how you feel about other groups. They found that in both majority and minority groups, feeling good about your own ethnicity makes you more open to other groups. However, the reasons behind this differ between the two groups. In the majority group, being agreeable and valuing selflessness and personal growth play a role. In the minority group, valuing tradition and being outgoing are important. This suggests that when it comes to getting along with different groups, cultural and personal values matter.
