Gender impacts self-employment success: Men and women face different outcomes.
Gender differences in self-employment duration were studied by looking at whether men and women leave self-employment for wage work or not. The study used data from different time periods, including the Great Recession, to see if people entered self-employment out of necessity or opportunity. The researchers found that men and women have different rates of leaving self-employment based on their previous work in the wage sector. The findings suggest that gender plays a role in how long people stay in self-employment and whether they transition back to traditional employment.
