New mutant canola lines show higher yield and oil content stability.
The study evaluated new mutant lines of canola over three generations and two different locations to see which ones had the best seed yield and quality. Mutant lines 11, 63, 74, and 92 showed the highest seed production in both locations. Line 8 was the most stable across locations, followed by lines 11, 66, 74, and 75. Oil content was linked to seed yield, and higher yields meant higher oil content. Protein content was negatively related to most yield factors, except for seed weight. Plant height could be used as a marker for selecting high-yielding canola lines. The study concluded that lines 8, 11, 66, 74, and 75 are excellent new genotypes for breeding new Egyptian canola varieties.
