Integrated flood control system in Yangtze River prevents catastrophic floods.
An integrated flood control system in the Jingjiang Reach of the Yangtze River was assessed for its effectiveness in preventing catastrophic floods. The system includes levees, reservoirs, and flood diversion zones. The Three Gorges Reservoir and other upstream reservoirs store a total of 27.7 billion cubic meters of floodwater. The Jingjiang Flood Diversion Zone holds 5.4 billion cubic meters. The highest water level at Shashi Station is kept below 45.00m, ensuring safety during floods like the one in 1870.
