Human activities driving significant decrease in runoff and sediment discharge in China.
The study analyzed changes in runoff and sediment discharge in the Xiliugou Basin, China, from 1960 to 2015. Results showed a significant decrease in both runoff and sediment discharge, with human activities being the main factor for the changes after 2005. Human activities accounted for 74.6% and 88.5% of the reduction in runoff and sediment discharge, respectively, from 2006 to 2015. Precipitation was responsible for the remaining percentage of the reduction in both runoff and sediment discharge during the same period.
