Cancer patients missing out on fertility preservation options, study finds
Fertility preservation discussions are not happening enough for cancer patients, especially older ones. A study looked at 2504 male cancer patients aged 18-60 and found that only 14.1% were counseled on cryopreservation. Chemotherapy patients were 7 times more likely to receive counseling. Testicular and prostate cancer patients were more likely to be offered cryopreservation. Younger patients were more likely to receive counseling compared to older patients. It's important to talk about fertility options for all cancer patients.
