Thai manufacturing's carbon emissions rise, but structural changes could curb pollution despite energy intensity challenges.
The researchers analyzed carbon emissions in Thailand's manufacturing sector from 2005 to 2017. They used a method called LMDI to figure out why CO2 emissions and their intensity were rising. Results showed that over the years, both CO2 emissions and intensity increased yearly. Changes in the industry structure helped reduce emissions and intensity, but individual industries using more energy made CO2 levels go up. To tackle this, policies to lower firms' energy use are crucial for Thailand to grow its industry without causing more pollution.
