New method detects harmful nitrate in milk powder, ensuring consumer safety.
The scientists developed a method to detect nitrite and nitrate in milk powder using high performance liquid chromatography. They extracted the milk powder sample, removed protein and fat, and analyzed it with HPLC. The method was found to be quick, sensitive, and convenient. The results showed that the method could detect nitrite and nitrate in milk powder accurately, with a detection limit of 0.5 mg/kg for nitrite and 1.0 mg/kg for nitrate. The recovery rate was between 88.3% and 101.3%, and the method had a low variability of less than 5%.
