Boosting irrigation and fertilization leads to record winter wheat yields!
The study looked at how irrigation and fertilization affect the yield of winter wheat in a region of Shanxi province. They found that increasing irrigation frequency led to higher grain yield. The region had high nitrogen fertilizer but lacked enough phosphorus fertilizer. The best grain yield was achieved with around 180 kg/hm2 of nitrogen and 100 kg/hm2 of phosphorus in a year with sufficient rainfall. To improve winter wheat yield, it is important to increase irrigation frequency, use fertilizers appropriately, and increase phosphorus nutrient inputs.
