Grassland degradation in Changji Xinjiang threatens ecosystem and livestock survival.
The study monitored the productivity of different types of grasslands in Changji, Xinjiang from 2010 to 2014. They found that the usable grassland area decreased in several types of grasslands compared to 2009. The fresh forage grass yield per hectare also decreased significantly. Overgrazing was observed, with a high number of sheep units exceeding the carrying capacity of the grasslands. The grassland ecosystem showed signs of damage, including desertification and degeneration.
