Thicker bedrock leads to increased subsidence in strip mining operations.
Strip mining under thick alluvium and thin bedrock causes more subsidence as the bedrock gets thinner. The subsidence increases with wider mining width and thinner bedrock. To control subsidence, mining and reservation width should consider both design principles and bedrock thickness.
