Winter precipitation in China intensifying, extreme events on the rise.
The study looked at winter precipitation changes in China from 1956 to 2002. They found that overall, winter precipitation, intensity, and extreme events increased. Northwest China had significant increases, especially in the late 1980s. North and Middle China saw decreases, while three southern regions had notable increases. South and Southeast China had weak links between precipitation and temperature, but strong connections to winter monsoon and Eurasia patterns. Southwest China's precipitation variability was linked to the Arctic Oscillation. Northeast China did not show consistent trends.
