The researchers used GIS technology and landscape ecology to study the landscape pattern of land consolidation in Huainan city. They found that after land consolidation, paddy fields became more regular and simple in shape. The number of landscape patches decreased, while patch sizes increased, leading to a reduction in landscape diversity but an increase in distribution uniformity.
