Selection for Bigger Fish Leads to Stronger Immune Systems in Tilapia.
The study looked at how breeding Nile tilapia for larger body weight affects their immune system. They compared fish from selected families bred for weight gain with fish from a regular breed line. Blood samples were taken to measure immune response parameters like protein levels and enzyme activity. The results showed that the selected breed line had better immune response parameters than the regular breed line. This means that breeding for larger body weight can improve the fish's ability to fight off diseases.
