Dirty water no more: New method revolutionizes water quality assessment.
The study measured water quality by looking at turbidity, total suspended solids, and water color. Turbidity is how murky water looks, with more solids making it cloudier. Turbidity is measured in NTU. Total suspended solids are particles in the water larger than 2 microns, measured in mg/L. Spectrophotometry helps determine water color, with apparent color from both dissolved and suspended matter, and true color only from dissolved substances. Coagulation and flocculation help remove particles from water. Jar tests were used to find the right amount of coagulant to clean raw water.
