Monoculture soybean farming outperforms polyculture in South Sumatra study.
The researchers compared growing soybeans alone versus with rubber trees in South Sumatra. They found that soybeans grew better and yielded more in monoculture than in polyculture. The Anjasmoro variety produced 15.35 ku per hectare in monoculture, compared to 4.72 ku per hectare in polyculture. Dena 1 also had higher yields in monoculture. The polyculture system had a higher land equivalent ratio than monoculture. Economically, both planting systems were profitable for farmers, with a value R/C greater than 1.
