Bighead carp could be the key to controlling nuisance algae in lakes!
The study compared the eating habits of two types of filter-feeding fish in different lakes. Silver carp mainly eat phytoplankton, especially Chlorophyta, in one lake and rely on phytoplankton in another. Bighead carp eat more zooplankton in one lake and more phytoplankton in the other, especially as algae levels increase. This suggests that bighead carp could help control excessive algae in lakes.
