The experiment studied using bioreactor landfills to manage organic waste at Jatibarang Landfill in Semarang, Indonesia. Four bioreactors were tested: 2 anaerobic with leachate recirculation, and 2 aerobic. Aerobic bioreactors reached peak temperatures faster, but anaerobic bioreactors reached higher temperatures. Anaerobic bioreactors had higher final pH values, while aerobic bioreactors accumulated nitrogen content twice as much as anaerobic ones.
