The study used satellite images to track changes in land use in the Horqin Sandy Land in China from 1985 to 2017. They found that grassland and woodland decreased, while cropland and sandy areas increased before 2000. After 2000, grassland increased due to a policy change. Water areas continued to decrease over the entire period.
