China's transportation system convergence reshapes regional development and infrastructure policies.
The article examines how China's transportation system has changed from 1978 to 2016. They used a method called SPSM to analyze the convergence of transportation structures in different provinces. The study found that most provinces in China have seen their transportation systems become more similar over time, except for Hubei province. The eastern and western regions show local convergence, while the central region, especially provinces like Henan and Hubei, do not. Urbanization helps transportation convergence, but local protectionism hinders it. China's transportation infrastructure is more influenced by policies than economics. The study gives insights into how China's transportation system is developing and the differences between regions.
